Tedious work is the path to enlightenment?

Waiting, waiting, waiting. We have had interest in the house but no bites yet. So like a lot of my blogs, the genesis arises from dreaming about future meaningful adventure in front of a computer screen, while your already paltry intended final net worth shrivels by 60%. There is nothing like the capitalistic system to cheer you up when it judges that your business is a garage sale and your house lacks "that new home feel".

Lacks "new home feel", huh?
One of the sites I go to is Coolworks.com. This site has jobs for presumably young folks with a cash flow problem, looking for adventure on cruise ships, bus drivers in national parks, fly fishing instructors at lodges in Alaska, seasonal positions on dude ranch's, etc. They have one section however, and I cringe to even say this could even apply to me, is jobs for "the older and bolder" Coolworks Older and Bolder. They offer the same sort of jobs, but more suited to the older worker in as such, longer seasonal availability once college has started and responsibility.  So as I scroll through the jobs, there are certain things that disqualify a position from further inquiry and one of those is a roommate(s).....just ain't gonna happen. Most of these jobs pay close to minimum wage but offer accommodations and a meal plan. Some offer RV sites, which would be perfect for me to provide low cost/break even hang factor in cool places like Yellowstone. I stumbled upon a young lady Interstellar Orchard on the vagabond blog scene recently, and she really breaks down well the pros and cons of three different companies and locations (she chose the Badlands in South Dakota for the summer).

Inspire Personal Growth
Inspiring personal growth at Ratna Ling

Well, one interesting vegetarian cook's job I stumble upon is at Ratna Ling Ratna Ling is located on 120 acres in the redwood forests of the coastal range of Northern California, 2.5 hours north of San Francisco. How cool Ted imagines..hang out in the yurt, mosey on over to the kitchen and make a little hummus, a little inspiring personal growth at yoga class, chill out on the beach during early evening cocktail hour/sunset from China...Now just because people rub bells together doesn't mean I am  going to drink the kool-aid without first checking them out. I go deep into the internet and find volunteer Andy's blog on his experience there for six months Andy does Ratna Ling

Andy, ~23, loved it. He loved the fact that Ratna Ling is a Buddhist *WORK* community. I read his whole six month journal there, and he loved reproducing Tibetan holy books, wrapping them in colorful cloth on modern binding machines and sending them to Tibetan exiles in India from 8:30 am until 5:30 pm, 5 days a week, in exchange for $150 a month, a space in a yurt and delicious vegetarian meals. Oh, Saturdays were "community day" where all the volunteers cleared brush and blazed trails. Sunday was " personal chore and laundry day". After a while, he journaled that although the focus on work that was physically hard, boring, repetitive and tedious, it offered time for self examination. It seemed to me that it seemed  to him that the tedious, $150 a month work, was the reward.

Andy's Yome

Sweet people, tedious, boring, physically taxing, free work may be the path to enlightenment for some people...but at this point, Chef Ted deleted the website and found this much more suitable one, which will be revealed next time.
